The Cortland Review  is open to consider poetry and translations. Send us your best work!

We accept simultaneous submissions, but kindly ask that you notify us as soon as possible when you have placed submitted work elsewhere. Please don’t “withdraw” the submission unless you plan to withdraw the entire submission; for single poem withdrawals, just send us a message attached to your submission.

Submit up to 5 poems at a time. We strongly recommend including 5 poems, which gives us more to choose from.

Please do not put poem titles in all-caps. Left-justify all poems (do not center poems) and use a 12 point font.

All submissions must be previously unpublished.

The Cortland Review
does its best respond to all submissions within 3-4 months.

We will be open for submissions from April 15 – May 15, 2025 and again in the Fall.

Please provide biographical information for both the translated author and the translator, and if you choose, a brief statement of any other relevant contextual information important to evaluating the submission. Feel free to comment, if you wish, as to why you are passionate about translating and helping to publish this author. Providing contextual and biographical information about the translated author and their work in a detailed but appropriately brief way helps us to evaluate the submission and is appreciated.

Please include the poems in the original language at the end of the submission.

You will be asked to affirm that you have been granted permission to publish these translations by either the translated author or their estate.
